English Learning Center

Mission Statement

We are a learning community of refugees, immigrants and advocates. Our mission is building knowledge for better lives and livelihoods.

What does that mean? Simply, that an education goes a long way towards reaching your goals.

Our students study English, math, computers, and prepare for citizenship exams. Practical skills mean better jobs and stronger communities.

Volunteer Opportunities

Looking for a way to travel the world without leaving your hometown?
Come down to the English Learning Center and teach our students, who come from over 30 countries — every continent except Antarctica.

No experience necessary! Lead a whole class of students learning English…tutor some computer or math students… or help a new immigrant learn about U.S. history and politics so they can become a citizen. Classes are held both mornings and evenings — exact schedule depends on volunteer position. Training opportunities available.

Still, given the many demands of life in a new country, it is rare that students can stay in our program long enough to climb through the levels and reach “graduation.” And yet, that is exactly what one student, Aziza, just did.
