MAKE A GIFT & DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT
UPDATE: As of 3/1/2026, we have received $19,250 in donations from 49 households that will be matched by the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation. A big thank you to everyone who donated to support the expansion of our shelter services!
To help us be able to expand our shelter, the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation has put forth $19,250 to support the additional costs of one month of operations.
Beginning July 17th, the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation with ALSO match up to $19,250 in contributions designated to support the expansion of our shelter services.
Your matched gift today will help add long-term capacity to our community’s shelter system and help more people work towards sustainable housing.
There are three ways to contribute a gift that’s eligible to be matched (the designations matter!) —
- Make a gift online at oscs-mn.org/donate and under “I want my gift to go to,” select “Shelter Expansion”
- Mail a check to Our Saviour’s Community Services at 2315 Chicago Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55404 and write “Shelter Expansion” in the memo line
- If you prefer to give via a Donor Advised Fund, an IRA, or another method and would like to have your gift matched, please send an email to donate@oscs-mn.org or call Robin at 612-843-3602 for more information
If (and hopefully, when) our matching funds are depleted, we will send an email and will post an update to oscs-mn.org/shelter-expansion.
Thank you for your support!
SERVE A MEAL
As we’re getting settled back into our shelter, it is extremely helpful to have meals prepared by volunteer groups. If you can, consider signing up to drop off a prepared dinner for up to 38 people, or to stick around and serve! Dropping off the smoothest option for the rest of August, but we hope to be able to open our basement dining room in early September.
TO GET STARTED: If you don’t currently serve meals at the shelter, the first step will be to fill out our Group Volunteer Interest form and select “Drop Off Dinner Only” or “Purchase, Prepare and Serve Dinner (6:00 – 8:00 p.m.)” as your interest. If you already serve meals, you can start by selecting a date on Sign Up Genius.
Your thoughtful meals cooked and/or served with care help make this transition smoother for guests and staff. Thank you!
SPONSOR A MEAL
Interested in supporting meals at our shelter, but unable to prepare a meal? Sponsoring a meal at the shelter helps us ensure that we’re providing three varied, nutritious, and healthy meals each day, 365 days of the year.
Your gift of $250 or more can sponsor a catered dinner for our 38 guests. First, select an open date on our Sign Up Genius page for dinners. Then, make a gift of $250 or more on our special donation form to sponsor your meal!
Thank you for helping us make transition a little smoother for guests and staff!
VOLUNTEER at the shelter's front desk
We’re looking for volunteers to help cover our reception desk. This is a great way to help support the shelter if you prefer a role with limited standing or lifting.
Duties include:
- Answering phones
- Taking messages
- Directing visitors
If you’re interested in this role, please reach out to volunteer@oscs-mn.org for more information. If you are a completely new volunteer, please fill out the Individual Volunteer Interest form first and select “Daytime Shelter Receptionist” if you are interested in supporting basic shelter operations run smoothly.
Make An In-Kind Donation
We’re currently accepting key items that we need to operate a larger shelter, including:
- Dinner plates (dishwasher safe)
- Cereal/Soup Bowls (dishwasher safe)
- Mugs (dishwasher safe)
- Cups (dishwasher safe)
- Large Tupperware (dishwasher safe)
- Large containers to store dry pantry goods
- Twin XL flat and fitted sheets
- Kitchen towels
- Bath towels
- Face towels or washcloths
If you want to host a donation drive, please tell us first so we know what you’re working on, and can make sure various groups are dividing and conquering! Then, once your items are collected, make an appointment to drop off your donations.
The renovation and construction of the emergency shelter is funded by a one-time capital grant from
the Minnesota Department of Human Services.
